ASTTU Welcomes New Partner: SMART Local 85

ST. LOUIS and ATLANTA, GA, July 23, 2025 / — SMART Local 85 represents more than 2,000 highly trained sheet metal workers who fabricate and install complex HVAC systems across Georgia. With over 85 years of history in the state, Local 85 members have helped construct and maintain vital infrastructure in stadiums, hospitals, schools, universities, data centers, and office buildings. These skilled professionals deliver precision-crafted ductwork and metal systems that meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and performance. Their work keeps buildings breathing—and communities running.

Through a Department of Labor–accredited apprenticeship program, Local 85 trains the next generation of sheet metal workers with on-the-job instruction from certified journeymen. Members earn while they learn, gaining the technical skills needed to build a lifelong career with livable wages, comprehensive benefits, and retirement security. With a total compensation package exceeding $51 per hour and a proud network of over 30 union contractors, SMART Local 85 continues to lead the way in workforce development and labor excellence in Georgia.
