ST. LOUIS and ATLANTA, GA, September 4, 2025 / — Chartered in 1926, IUOE Local 926 began with just 20 charter members serving the Atlanta area. Over the years, through the mergers of Locals 926, 443, and 329, the union has grown to represent more than 1,300 skilled operating engineers. From the earliest fights for pensions and health plans to the establishment of training programs that set industry standards, Local 926’s history is a story of solidarity, sacrifice, and progress.
Generations of Local 926 Members have stood together to win better wages, stronger protections, and expanded benefits. They fought for grievance procedures to defend fairness on the job, safety and health provisions that safeguard workers, overtime and show-up clauses, and equal employment opportunity rules that ensure every Member has a voice and a place. Each contract victory has built upon the last, carrying forward the vision of those who came before while securing dignity and fairness for those who will follow.
Today, IUOE Local 926 continues to honor that proud heritage while looking to the future. Its Members are at the forefront of training, safety, and political action—through its Engineers Political Education Committee (EPEC) and Joint Apprenticeship and Training Program (JATP)—ensuring that the Local remains strong on the job, in the community, and in the halls of power. With a commitment to democracy in its ranks and justice in the workplace, Local 926 is more than a union; it is a living legacy of resilience and unity.
