ASTTU Welcomes New Partner: Iron Workers Local 92

We’re proud to stand with Local 92 in a shared commitment to serving Members and building a stronger future for union labor.

ST. LOUIS and BIRMINGHAM, AL, July 22, 2025 / — Chartered in 1906, Ironworkers Local 92 has helped shape the skyline of Birmingham, Alabama, from the city’s earliest steel-frame structures to modern landmarks. Their members erected historic buildings like the Empire Building, the Tutwiler Hotel, Sloss Furnace, and the Alabama Theater—projects that still stand as symbols of Birmingham’s growth and resilience. What began with a coal conveyor job in the early 1900s has grown into a legacy of skilled craftsmanship, jobsite safety, and dedication to getting the job done right.

With over a century of service, Local 92 continues to uphold the same pride and professionalism that defined its founding Members. From high-rise buildings to bridges, the union has remained committed to on-time, on-budget results and to strengthening its workforce through rigorous training and a focus on safety. Local 92 is more than a union—it is a foundational part of Birmingham’s past, present, and future.

The Association of Skilled Trade and Transportation Unions (ASTTU) is proud to welcome Ironworkers Local 92 as a new partner. We look forward to working together to protect their Members, support union labor, and continue building lasting infrastructure across Alabama and beyond.
