ASTTU Welcomes New Partner: Iron Workers Local 48
We’re proud to stand with Iron Workers Local 48 in a shared commitment to protecting Members, strengthening union labor, and building a stronger future for workers across Oklahoma.
ST. LOUIS and OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, September 25, 2025 / — Chartered in 1914, Iron Workers Local 48 has been providing highly skilled Journeyman Ironworkers to contractors for more than a century. Based in Oklahoma City, Local 48 is a mixed local representing structural, rebar, and ornamental Ironworkers whose craftsmanship can be seen across bridges, buildings, and industrial sites throughout the region. Their expertise spans the erection of structural steel, placement of reinforcing rebar, rigging and precision installation of machinery, and the shaping of ornamental metals such as aluminum, brass, and copper.
Local 48’s history is rooted in resilience and growth. From its early years moving between small halls, to the establishment of its Apprenticeship School in the 1970s, to the construction of a modern Union Hall in 2006, the Local has continually invested in training, safety, and the future of its Members. Its Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) ensures that new generations of Ironworkers have the skills and knowledge to uphold the proud traditions of the trade while meeting the demands of an evolving industry.
Local 48’s legacy also includes moments of extraordinary service. Following the tragic bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in 1995, 54 Ironworkers from Local 48 risked their lives to assist rescue and recovery efforts. Their courage and sacrifice left an indelible mark on Oklahoma City and stand as a powerful example of solidarity, service, and humanity.
The Association of Skilled Trade and Transportation Unions (ASTTU) is honored to welcome Iron Workers Local 48 as a new partner. Together, we will work to protect their Members, support union labor, and continue building a safer, stronger, and more resilient future for Oklahoma and beyond.
