ASTTU Welcomes New Partner: IBEW Local 995
We’re proud to stand with IBEW Local 995 in a shared commitment to protecting Members, advancing union labor, and building a stronger future for electrical workers across Louisiana.
ST. LOUIS and BATON ROUGE, LA, September 4, 2025 / — We’re proud to stand with IBEW Local 995 in a shared commitment to protecting Members, advancing union labor, and building a stronger future for electrical workers across Louisiana.
Chartered on July 28, 1919, IBEW Local 995 has been a cornerstone of Baton Rouge’s transformation from a rural town into an industrial hub along the Mississippi River. From powering homes and businesses to supporting the growth of Louisiana’s chemical plants and energy infrastructure, Local 995’s Members have been at the center of progress for more than a century.
What began with a “hardy group of 22 electrical workers” determined to improve wages and working conditions has grown into a union more than 800 Members strong, representing electricians, linemen, and engineers who deliver safe, reliable power every day. Local 995 has built a proud legacy of organizing, negotiating strong contracts, and ensuring that Members have access to fair wages, secure employment, and the industry-leading training needed to adapt to changing technologies.
Today, Local 995 continues to expand its reach across Louisiana. Its inside jurisdiction covers 10 parishes, including East and West Baton Rouge, Ascension, Iberville, and Livingston, while its outside jurisdiction extends statewide. From high-voltage transmission lines and substations with Entergy and cooperatives, to industrial facilities owned by Dow, Shintech, and others, Local 995 Members bring skill, safety, and professionalism to every project.
The Association of Skilled Trade and Transportation Unions (ASTTU) is proud to welcome IBEW Local 995 as a new partner. Together, we will work to strengthen the labor movement, support their Members, and continue powering progress in Baton Rouge, across Louisiana, and beyond.
