ASTTU Welcomes New Partner: IBEW Local 499

ST. LOUIS and CLIVE, IA, April 7, 2025 / — We’re proud to stand with Local 499 in a shared commitment to serving Members and building a stronger future for union labor.

IBEW Local 499 represents utility workers across Iowa, eastern South Dakota, and parts of Nebraska. Chartered in 1934 by workers at Iowa Power and Light, the local has grown to nearly 1,000 members who help power homes, businesses, and communities through their work with companies like MidAmerican Energy and several rural electric cooperatives. With eight contracts across seven companies, Local 499’s members are the front line of keeping the power grid running safely and reliably across the region.

Local 499 members are known for their professionalism, technical skill, and dedication to the job.
