OUR MISSION
Founded in 2019, the Association of Skilled Trade and Transportation Unions (ASTTU) is a not-for-profit organization committed to advancing, protecting, and improving the lives of union Members and the strength of unions in the skilled trades and transportation sectors.
We stand shoulder to shoulder with workers and leaders, building solidarity across our Members and allies. Our mission is to safeguard and support union brothers and sisters doing some of the most demanding and dangerous jobs in our economy.
Today, unions face serious challenges. There is a well-funded and coordinated War on Workers taking place across the country. State legislatures continue to pass Right to Work laws that mislead workers into thinking they gain freedom by opting out of union membership. In truth, these laws weaken unions, lower wages, reduce benefits, increase workplace injuries, and strip workers of their voice.
These efforts are designed to divide us. ASTTU is here to fight back. We are committed to reeducating workers on the value of strong union membership and the importance of standing arm in arm. We believe the only way to win is together.
We proudly partner with unions across the United States to push for legislation and initiatives that:
- Expand access to union jobs through smart infrastructure investments and public projects
- Defend the right to organize, collectively bargain, and strike
- Protect workers from misclassification, wage theft, and unsafe conditions
- Ensure fair labor practices, employee classification, and strong health and retirement benefits
- Push back against anti-union laws and support policies that strengthen organized labor

How we do it
We start by advocating. Our goal is to strengthen our union partners and the labor movement as a whole through collaboration, technology, and grassroots action. That means working alongside union leaders to defend collective bargaining rights, support pro-labor legislation, push back against anti-worker policies, and provide resources to assist national, regional, and local unions wherever we can. When the union is strong, the membership can thrive. From there, we focus on empowering individual Members with real support like safety resources, expanded income replacement benefits, out-of-pocket medical coverage, state and federal FMLA or disability advocacy, and return-to-work advocacy. We back it all with a clear message that union solidarity remains the most powerful force for working people. Stronger unions. Stronger Members. A stronger movement!
